Meet the Earth Champions: April's top volunteers on Hero

The Hero Team·1 April 2026·3 min read

This month's Earth Champions

Every month, Hero spotlights the volunteers who have made the biggest environmental impact through their volunteering hours. April's Earth Champions have collectively logged over 340 hours of environmental volunteering — from beach cleans to tree planting to rewilding projects.

Marcus T. — 42 hours, Coastal Conservation volunteer

"I grew up by the sea. Watching plastic wash up on the beach where I swam as a kid was heartbreaking. I started volunteering with a coastal cleanup charity last year and it became genuinely addictive. You can see the immediate difference. I've now organised four community beach cleans through Hero and we've removed over 80kg of plastic."

Priya S. — 38 hours, Urban Rewilding volunteer

"I'm a data analyst during the week. Volunteering is my antidote to screen time. There's something incredibly grounding about planting trees and knowing they'll be there in 50 years. The Hero leaderboard keeps me honest — in a good way. It's friendly competition but it reminds me to show up."

How the Hero leaderboard works

The Hero leaderboard ranks volunteers by XP earned within a given cause category. Earth Champions are volunteers who have accumulated the most XP through environmental opportunities (SDG 13, SDG 15). XP is awarded based on hours volunteered, with bonus points for consecutive streaks and first-time activities.

Rankings reset monthly, so every volunteer starts fresh. The top three volunteers in each category each month earn special Earth Champion badges on their profiles.
